Policy on inclusive dates covered by the program fee: Lodging and three meals per day during the inclusive dates of the program are covered by the program fee. Late or early arrivals to Ecuador should be consulted with Dr. Tod Swanson. Extra expenses program dates and outside the planned group activities must be covered by the participant.
Summer Session I begins on June 6th after the evening meal and ends with breakfast on June 30th. Participants arriving on the 6th will be picked up at the airport by a Field School representative and taken to the hotel. Most flights from the US arrive in Quito after 10 PM and students are served an evening meal on the plane. No evening meal is provided by the program. On June 30th the program provides breakfast and delivers departing students to the airport. Most students return to the US on an early morning flight on June 30th. The program ends at this point.
There is a break between session 1 and session 2 starting from the morning of June 30th, through the evening of July 4th. During this time period, participants may travel to other parts of Ecuador. Meals, lodging, transportation and other expenses incurred during this break are not covered by the Andes and Amazon Field School.

On July 28th the program provides breakfast and delivers departing students to the airport. Most students return to the US on an early morning flight on July 28th. The program ends at this point. It does not pay for expenses of students staying in Ecuador beyond this point. .
Policy on late arrivals, early departures and periods of leave from the Field School: Late or early arrivals to Ecuador should be consulted with Dr. Tod Swanson. Expenses incurred in late arrival or in any activities outside the planned group activities must be covered by the participant. While traveling as a group meals in restaurants are covered if the participant eat with the group. With the consent of the Director participants may choose to eat in other restaurants on their own but must do so at their own expense.
Language courses are held until noon on Saturdays. 1200 noon on Saturdays marks the end of the academic week for the Andes and Amazon Field School. Weekend meals and lodging at the Field School are covered by the program fee. Students may go in to the town of Tena for the weekend if they choose. If the student leaves the Field School site they must sign a waiver relieving Arizona State University of responsibility as well as indicating when they are leaving and when they expect to return. As a courtesy to the cooks please inform the kitchen in writing which meals you expect to miss over the weekend. The cost of bus fare or taxis to and from Tena to the Field School site are not covered by the program fee unless they are part of a scheduled group activity authorized by the Director.
Policy on the consumption of alcohol: If the student is a legal drinking age alcohol may be consumed in accordance with Arizona and Ecuadorian law while away from the Field School site. Field School policy prohibits the consumption of alcohol at the Field School site or in the community of Venecia. The cost of alcoholic beverages is never covered by the Andes and Amazon Field School or the program fee.
