Lalu is a plant which usually produces distaste among Quichua people as a “shikshi panga”  A plant that makes one itch.  In the origin story of the Acangau bird women punish him by giving him a drink made of lalu and red peppers instead of chicha.  It makes him scratch his throat until it bleeds which is why his throat is red today.
